Miscommunications

Miscommunication 1: Discussing what to do while waiting while Venus goes to get the portable stove.

Me: I want bubble tea.

Janelle: Kung Fu Tea had a buy one get one free deal…

Venus: It’s over now. What about Cha Time? I think they have that deal. (pause) One just opened in Flushing.

Me: Flushing? Flushing? (note: I didn’t know they had that shop in Chinatown… I thought she was suggesting that we go to Flushing)

Venus: Yes, Flushing. Is there something wrong with Flushing?

Janelle: You went there once, remember?

Me: It’s so far!

Venus: Oh! I thought you were talking about the name.

Janelle: Like… flushing a toilet or something.

Miscommunication 2: At the bubble tea shop

Me: 3 regular bubble teas please.

(I get one)

Me: I asked for 3… didn’t I? (look at my receipt, realize I only paid for one) Oh… Shoot…

Miscommunication 3: At the Junior hotpot

…Me mishearing something…

Brian: Clare’s ready to take a nap too.

Patrick: Clare’s been ready to take a nap since the beginning.

Venus: She’s been mishearing things all day.

AHHH THE BUNNY in the TEACUP.

But the one in the cage looks a bit like a rat.

BC. AD.

BC is everything that took place before year “0”.

AD is everything afterwards.

Did people in history keep track of years? I imagine they did, at least, kingdom wise, right? 3rd Year in the reign of Emperor _______. Or by sovereigns? Obviously, they didn’t use the same system we did. They would have had to count down. One year is 300. The next is 299. The next 298. Then 297. Nope. Or at least. I don’t think so.

I wouldn’t know.

What I do know, however, is that China began around 2000 BC give or take a century or two (LOL such a rough guesstimate). Or, as the politically correct would have it now, “BCE.” We live now, in 2012, AD. Or, as the politically correct would have it now,”CE.

What are the politically correct BCE and CE acronyms for? Before Common Era. Common Era. Tailored specially for the non-Christian people.

So what do BC and AD stand for? BC. Before Christ. And…

Despite common misconception, ‘AD’ does not mean “after death.” It means Anno Domini.

Odd, I know. One is in English. And the other is in Latin.

WHY!? That bothers me!!
